The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is announcing one vacancy on the Environmental Farming Act Science Advisory Panel (EFA SAP). The panel advises the secretary on the implementation of the Healthy Soils Program and the State Water Efficiency and Enhancement Program, and also assists federal, state, and local government agencies, as appropriate or necessary, on issues relating to the impact of agricultural practices on air, water, and wildlife habitat.
According to statute, the Secretary of CDFA shall appoint five of the nine EFA SAP members. Members of the panel shall be highly qualified and professionally active or engaged in the conduct of scientific research. The applicant must have a minimum of five years of training and experience in the field of agriculture and shall represent production agriculture.
The EFA SAP has four to six public meetings annually throughout the state of California. The term of office for a panel member is three years. Members of the EFA SAP receive no compensation but are entitled to payment of necessary traveling expenses in accordance with the rules of the Department of Personnel Administration. Members are considered public officials and must be willing to comply with necessary disclosure requirements.
